Common questions
- Do I need an account?
- No. Aquafern has no sign-up and no password. If you're signed in to iCloud on your device, your log backs up and syncs automatically using your own Apple Account.
- My second device isn't showing my tanks.
- Both devices need to be signed in to the same Apple Account with iCloud Drive turned on (Settings → your name → iCloud). Open Aquafern on both and give it a minute on Wi-Fi — the first sync of a long log can take a while. Settings inside Aquafern shows whether it's syncing or saving locally only.
- If I don't subscribe, do I lose my old readings?
- No. Everything you log is kept and backed up whether or not you subscribe. The free tier charts the last 30 days; older readings are still there, still synced, and appear again the moment you subscribe. Cancelling never deletes anything.
- How do I restore a subscription on a new phone?
- Open the Pro screen and tap Restore in the top right. As long as you're signed in to the same Apple Account that bought it, it comes straight back.
- How do I cancel?
- Subscriptions are managed by Apple, not by us: open the Settings app, tap your name, then Subscriptions. Cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal date. The app also has a shortcut under Settings → Subscription.
- Can I use °F, gallons, or specific gravity?
- Yes. Volume is set once in Settings. Each parameter has its own unit, set per tank: tap the unit next to the number while logging, or open the tank → Parameters and pick one there. Readings are stored in a single canonical unit and converted for display, so changing units never alters your history.
- The target range isn't right for my fish.
- The defaults are conservative middles for each tank type — a discus keeper and a Tanganyikan keeper want very different pH targets and both are right. Open the tank → Parameters → tap a parameter and set your own range. (Custom targets are a Pro feature.)
- I tested something but the reading didn't save.
- Skipping a parameter records nothing for it — deliberately, because "didn't test" and "tested and got zero" are different facts and mixing them would wreck the charts. If you meant zero, tap the 0 chip rather than Skip.
- Where did my reminders go?
- Reminders need notification permission (Settings → Aquafern → Notifications) and are part of Pro. Each tank uses its own water change and test interval, which you set when editing the tank; the time of day is in Aquafern's own Settings.
- Can I get my data out?
- Yes, and without asking us. Tank → Export gives you a CSV for spreadsheets (one row per test, one column per parameter) and a printable PDF report. It's your data; there's no lock-in.
- Is there an Android version?
- Not currently.
Something's broken
Aquafern is meant to be boring and correct. If it crashed, lost an entry, or charted something that looks wrong, that's a bug worth reporting — email hello@aquafern.app with what you saw and your app version (Settings → About → Version).
